The Recipe Space: Baby Food Making Basics

Let’s face it; roasted vegetables and fruits are delicious!  Babies think so too.  Starting at 6 months we began roasting and pureeing vegetables and fruits for my son.  The best part is that you can make a lot at once and freeze them in ice cube trays (we use silicon trays) and they will keep up to 1 month.

Instructions:

1)   Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fbaby-food-purees

2)   Cut fruits and vegetables in halves face down on a baking dish or sheet

3)   When the fruit and vegetable is soft enough to slide a knife in and out remove from the oven.

4)   Remove the peel

5)   Puree in a food processor or blender

Fruits and vegetables that we regularly puree (time varies with ripeness)

–sweet potato (30-40 min)

–butternut squash (30-40 min)

–zucchini (25 min)

–carrots (40 min)

–apple (30-40 min)

–mango (20 min)

–pear (30-40 min)
